Tina Rahimi: From Western Sydney to Paris Olympics 2024

Meet Tina Rahimi, a local boxer from Western Sydney who's on her way to the Paris Olympics 2024.

She has made history as the first female Muslim boxer chosen to represent Australia, amongst 12 other qualified fighters. We’ve been backing Tina’s journey from the start, proud to see her represent not just the area we operate in, but the spirit of resilience we hold dear.

At RWC Western Sydney, we’re honoured to support Tina as she takes her talents to the world stage. “When I first saw Tina almost three years ago, I knew there was something special about her. Her dedication and drive were evident from the start,” says Peter Vines, our Managing Director.

Born and raised in Western Sydney, Tina Rahimi discovered her passion for boxing later than most athletes. Determined to excel in the sport, she devoted herself to rigorous training and discipline, overcoming challenges along the way. Reflecting on her journey, Tina shares, “I love the discipline, I love the challenges.”

She has also competed in the Commonwealth Games, earning a bronze medal in the featherweight division (57 kilograms) in Birmingham in 2022. Furthermore, she attained gold at the recent Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands, where all five judges unanimously selected her as the winner in the final.

As the Paris Olympics draw near, Tina Rahimi’s training regime has intensified. Tina remarks, “It’s mentally challenging just to show up… for you to be where you want to be you have to face those challenges.” Reflecting on the challenges she has faced, Tina opens up about the physical and emotional toll of her training regimen during the sacred month of Ramadan: “I had to cut weight, make weight for this fight and prepare while I was fasting. There were days by 4PM where I couldn’t even talk, that’s how drained I have been.”

As Tina Rahimi prepares to represent her country, she’s not just thinking about herself. She wants to inspire other young athletes to never give up on their dreams, embodying the values of perseverance and dedication. With a strong belief in herself, Tina says, “I’m capable of doing anything.”

In the end, Tina’s journey from Western Sydney to Paris shows us the power of never giving up. At RWC Western Sydney, we’re proud to stand by her side as she takes on the world stage. As Tina herself declares, “OMG why am I fighting, I don’t want to fight.” Yet, with every challenge faced, she stays true to her goal of reaching the top. In the end, Tina’s journey from Western Sydney to Paris shows us the power of never giving up. “Tina’s success is a reflection of her hard work and dedication, but also of the support she’s received from her community. We’re honoured to be a part of that support system,” concludes Peter Vines, our Managing Director.
